Robert Timmons
Electrical Engineer
This portfolio showcases the engineering projects I’ve worked on, along with my professional experience. It also gives some insight into my background—how I got into engineering and what I’m working toward.
About me
I served in the US Navy as a Fire Controlman (FC) from 2013 to 2019. While serving, I completed two years of intensive technical training, where I learned to troubleshoot electrical components, high tech weapons systems, and radar system.
Upon completion of my training I was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, where I conducted corrective and preventive maintenance on the missile defense and point-defense weapons systems, as well as their applicable radar systems. After a few years aboard the Lincoln I gained the rank of Petty Officer Second Class where I gained significant leadership experience. I was responsible for overseeing multiple watch teams both at sea and ashore. While deployed I was responsible for the crew who operated the ship’s missile defense and point-defense weapons systems, which ensure the safety of the crew.
After completing my service in 2019, I transitioned to civilian life as a college student. I decided it would be challenging and rewarding to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering. I felt this field would deepen my understanding of the systems I worked on while in the Navy, and increase the likelihood I would find success outside of the military.
I started my college education at Northwestern Michigan College, where I graduated with honors, earning an Associate’s Degree in Science and Arts. I then transferred to Central Michigan University, where I am currently a senior who is on track to graduate in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I expect to graduate cum laude with a GPA of 3.67 and minor in Mathematics.
